As quartz watches began to take hold in the 70’s Swiss manufacturers went through great lengths to differentiate and compete with manual and automatic watches. One effort to do this was to produce high beat movements like this Zodiac SST 36000 automatic. The high rate of 36k beats per hour (yes that’s 10 beats per second) produces a highly accurate timepiece with less positional timing variation and a smoother seconds hand.

Hold it up to your ear and you’ll know this Zodiac is something special. Ticking away 10 times per second the escapement beats away like a hummingbird. The result: a silky smooth seconds hand that is absolutely mesmerizing. These vintage Zodiacs are highly underrated in our opinion and the quality of the Zodiac Caliber 86 movement hits far above its weight class.

About this example

Zodiac SST 36000s are very hard to find, especially in this condition. The dial is absolutely stunning with almost no wear. The indices are high polished and reflect very well. The hands have their original lume and are near brand new. The case has some minor wear but is unpolished and showcasing its original geometry perfectly. Has the original Zodiac signed crown. Comes recently serviced by SWC on a brand new blue nato strap that complements the dial very well.
