What’s so special
While the Seiko 6139-600X “Pogue” gets most of the lime light these days in terms of collectible vintage Seikos, Seiko also put their amazing caliber 6139B in other notable models. One example is this reference 6139-7039 “Baby Jumbo” chronograph. Also known as the “Seiko Speedy” for its likeness to the great Omega Speedmaster Professional of the time.
Featuring a dial with lots of character and depth, bold military inspired design, and a remarkable quick set day/date complication, this chronograph offered value, functionality, and style that eclipsed some of the Swiss competitors of the time.
Why SWC loves it
The 6139B movement truly is an incredible bit of kit and far underrated. These were miles ahead of Swiss chronographs at the time. Seiko masterfully accomplished the same functionality in half the parts. In addition to being an incredible chronograph the Seiko 6139B movement features Seiko’s magic lever automatic works. This creates an incredibly efficient automatic winding in a very slim package.
If that wasn’t enough, the 6139B is a vertical clutch column wheel chronograph! This enables perfect chronograph action every time without a stuttering start/stop action you find on Swiss horizontal clutch designs.
About this example
This example comes to you freshly serviced by SWC and in good original condition. The dial and hands are original and wonderfully preserved with some wear from years of use. The case has minor polishing and some dings but retains its original geometry well. Comes on the original Seiko tapered steel bracelet for this reference sized for a 6.25-7.5″ wrist. All movement functions work perfectly and the watch is keeping excellent time. The crystal and bezel is original to the model but does have some scratches.
Note: During service the chronograph reset action is adjusted lighter than originally designed by Seiko. This is done to preserve longevity of the chronograph seconds hand and post. Returns for slow chronograph return action on Seiko 6139B chronographs will not be accepted.
