What’s so special?

The Seiko 6139-6022 is part of the historic Seiko 6139 series, introduced in 1969 as one of the very first automatic chronograph wristwatches in the world. In the race to create the first automatic chronograph the Seiko’s 6139 was among the earliest to reach the market. Beyond its technical significance, the 6139 became an icon of 1970s design with its bold case shapes and colorful dials.

Inside features Seiko’s in house caliber 6139A/B, a fully integrated automatic chronograph movement with a column wheel and vertical clutch. It features a 30-minute chronograph register, central chronograph seconds hand, and a quick-set day/date complication. This particular reference, the 6139-6022, is notable for its rare pulsations scale on the rotating inner chapter ring, designed to measure heart rates by timing pulses against the chronograph seconds hand. An uncommon variant compared to tachymeter versions. The case is a bold cushion style stainless steel design, with recessed pump pushers and a crown integrated at 3 o’clock.

This example features a silver-white dial with applied black rectangular hour markers and chronograph minute sub-dial at 6 o’clock. The chronograph seconds hand is a bright orange-red. The day-date window is framed at 3 o’clock, with bilingual day display. The case shows its original brushed surfaces and angular lines, paired here with a light brown leather strap that softens the watch’s tool-like presence with a touch of warmth.
